The wireless technology, or "wireless", is capable of transferring data between personal computers using a signal based on high frequency radio waves. The communication is ensured by the use of appropriate devices, interfaced with our desktop or notebook PC, capable of transmitting and receiving radio signals.
The technologies used in the creation of wireless networks are essentially two: Narrowban and Spread Spectrum. The first is less common and constrained by the fact that users take advantage of well-defined radio frequencies, limiting the bandwidth within a very small range. These frequencies require an appropriate license associated with the allocation of a particular frequency. The second, however, is more widespread in the construction of WLAN. This technology uses more bandwidth and this will automatically translate into a stronger signal. The devices send and receive audio signal must be properly synchronized with each other otherwise the signal will be "seen" as a background noise.
The spread spectrum technology can provide two different types of transmission that are called FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) and DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum). The transmitted signal with the FHSS mode is characterized by the fact that its frequency is changed continuously in time according to a well defined sequence known only to those who must, of course, receive the transmitted data, which will have to "synchronize" with the broadcaster, in It's like being connected to a computer network, but does not require any cables. It allows to distribute the Internet connection in any room of the house, all without telephone jacks.
And 'Wi-Fi, the wireless digital connectivity technology that extends and enhances the capabilities of local networks. The maximum spread of Wi-Fi will be right in the home, where a cable passing from one room to another is often a problem and sometimes a nightmare.
The first family of standards IEEE 802.11 (IEEE Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the reference protocol for WLANs, dates back to 1977 and guaranteed data transmission speed in a very limited and equal to about 1 or 2 Mbps Since 1977, this protocol has undergone continuous changes until they reach the current version, IEEE 802.11b, also known as Wi-Fi, that is the mark that shows the devices that allow for digital communications with its own protocol.
