LED Technology
The concept of LED technology (light-emitting diodes, light emitting diodes), seems to have been 'discovered' only now the most modern and innovative companies operating in market sectors such as automotive, computer, lap-tops, modern systems lighting.
These companies have dedicated the LED as a completely new technology capable of offering them and their customers many important benefits. Is compared to previous products of other vendors, the LED solution provides better results, such as reducing production costs, a greater and more consistent product quality, and a reduced environmental impact.
The significant increase in activity for the development of printing solutions based on LED technology, which is found among the largest producers in the industry, shows that this market segment is not immune from this trend.
There is no doubt that the confirmation of LEDs as a viable alternative to laser-based printing technology, is due to its ability to meet the need for certainty on the return on investment typical of the difficult economic times like the present. This is particularly reflected in the mid / small business market, where companies must compete with larger competitors and with more budget, and all this in an increasingly competitive market.

This TV is so cool and light. Sony cannot make a better tv than this. The picture quality is absoulutely crisp and perfect. LED's makes all the difference compared to LCD's. Hooked my my region free dvd player via HDMI, Blu Ray Player via HDMI, Bose Home Theatre via HDMI, and last but not least my PS3 via HDMI and it's on a wall mount.

I have been a faithful fan to the line of Sony Bravia TV's for a while. This will make my third Bravia, but my first LED. The other two(55" & 47") are an LCD. I did have the requirement of a motion processor (120HZ) in all TVs. It is a must for me. I like my action movies, gaming & sports. This is my first week with the 40" LED. Picture quality? I am not sure yet. Right now my LCD TVs produce a nicer picture. Factory settings on the new LED seem to make the picture dark. Yes, I am playing with settings all the time. I have HD cable service and usually a good test station to see the quality of picture your television can produce is by watching National Geo or a news station channel. Those two stations always produce a good picture. Not this time for some reason. Right now, I am kind of bummed out that my LCD TVs are producing a nicer picture then this LED. Maybe, I just have not found that sweet spot on the settings yet.
Speakers/Audio - My LCD TVs unfortunately have better sound then this slim line LED. The slimmer they make these TVs the quality of sound decreases. Speaker technology can not keep up in making a speaker that small capable of producing a nice sound. Will not happen for a while. So, invest in a nice home sound system. I am using the Bose 3-2-1 sound system, not a high end system ($800.00) but a nice sounding system with my 55" Bravia. The Bravia LCD produces an awesome picture when playing a DVD or Blue Ray DVD movie. With the Bose sound system fired up too(and Bose is known for the quality of sound that their systems can produce)the tanks clunking through Private Ryan and Band of Brothers feel like there coming through the living room wall. It is AWESOME. Got to love it. I like my Bravia LCDs a lot. I believe in the Sony Bravia TVs and I guess I will just have to play with the new LED for a while longer before I come to a final conclusion on the LED.
Well, after a week or so of playing with the settings and getting use to the LED compared to the LCD. I would have to say that the Sony Bravia LED does produce an outstanding high clarity picture. It is so clear that it is almost weird. You know how the soap opera shows look like they are being filmed on a set/stage. Well, the clarity to this television makes the night time shows look like that too. Nice television, nice clarity, speaker system bites, but they all do right now. Unless, your plugged into an external sound system. Just weird to see the difference in clarity between an LED & a LCD.

LCD screens based on LED backlight
The new Flat TVs are based on LED technology. Here's how they work and how they go and especially because of the future may become the standard.
The LED system is not the only technology able to "turn on" screens and LCD TVs. There are other promising technologies such as OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) and SED.
The first uses special organic materials and promises lower fuel consumption, fast response times and better brightness, while the latter uses electron guns to illuminate the pixels made of phosphorescent particles.
In this case, a small transmitter, about the size of a nanometer, is placed behind each subpixel of the screen allowing the realization of ultra-thin panels.
The result of the LED technology offers many advantages: brilliant color and a richness of color that no other LCD TV is able to return.
This technology is complemented by an operating frequency of 100 Hz to provide smooth and without streaks sequences .. in short, all LCD screens have the credentials to rival those of plasma, current reference with regard to large-sized screens.
The screen with LED technology is not limited to be used only for TV but also for desktop or laptop computer monitors.
Almost all manufacturers of flat screens seem to want to adopt this technology profitable and promising.
The new MacBook Air uses LED technology for its 13.3-inch backlit screens with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. LED technology reduces power consumption and completely replace the previous architecture for several years was used in the screens of personal computers.
How does an LED screen
When it comes to LED screens do not want a new image generation technology. A more appropriate term would be "based on the LCD screen LED backlighting" because the panel that produces the images is that of a conventional flat screen.
Inside the screen LED emitted light from 2160 small red LEDs, green and blue combine to form a white light. The light beam passes through a diffusion plate that ties it all together.
The most obvious advantage compared to conventional lamp is the best color quality: the neon of traditional LCD screens, it does not return, and a perfect white light must be corrected by using color filters that provide amazing results.
The white light illunina then the liquid crystal panel to form the final image.
The duration of the LCD screen based on LED technology is on the order of 100 thousand hours while that of a conventional screen is 50 thousand hours.
Thanks to LED technology can be built of thick-thin screens a couple of millimeters.

Overall, I'm happy with this TV. I wouldn't call myself a videophile, but the picture quality is quite good to my eyes. Although it's an edge lit LCD, I see no signs of flashlighting, clouding, etc. The black is quite consistant. I had been a bit concerned about buying an edge lit, but I'm glad I did. There aren't as many color controls as on some models, but it should be good enough for most. The audio is OK - nothing special. Bass isn't as strong as I'd like. But I had planned to hook it up to my stereo, so no big loss there for me. Netflix works pretty well. The interface isn't quite as slick as my xbox, but I do find myself using it. Pandora works well, though it locked up once on me. Youtube works well too. There are plenty of inputs. It doesn't support wifi w/o an adapter, but I knew that before I bought, and have it hardwired. DLNA support is pretty good. I have streamed a few movies from my ReadyNas without problems.
A few things that annoyed me:
1) I had seen in several places references to this TV supporting Sony Internet Widgets. Some references (including Sony's website) said it supported them, and some said it would some time in April. As of now (late May, 2011), it does NOT. These are different than Netflix,Pandora, Youtube, etc, which work fine. I've had at least two firmware updates since I hooked the TV up, but still no widgets. <Update>This came in an update back around June - I never use them.
2) The user interface isn't very consistant - there are two or three interfaces hobbled together. The main interface is pretty slick, but it used a different one with a different background for Internet video - the colors used don't really work well together. The interface for the video looks like that from my BlueRay player, so I think they just reused it without a re-skin.
3) Web browsing is useless. The controls are clunky, it's slow, and on a big page, it can run out of memory. There's no flash support.
4) The latest HDMI specs support controlling components over HDMI. Sony claims support (they call it "Sync") but ONLY for sony products. I can control my BlueRay, but not my non-sony stereo. This isn't a huge loss either, since I'm using a Harmony remote, but others might be more annoying to others.
5) (Not Sony's fault) Harmony doesn't support this TV yet (or didn't as of February) - I set it up as a EX500 instead, but had to add a LOT of custom buttons.

This is the third HDTV that I have purchased in the past two years and is the best of the three.
PROS: Very good picture. Though sound is not great, it is better than my two LGs.
It has been used in two rooms and sound is much better in a smaller room. It seems that six feet makes a big difference in sound volume.
The price has dropped $200.00 since I purchased in April 2011.
CONS: If you are not a TV "expert", the remote setup is tiresome because the best version of the owner's manual has to accessed using the remote.
The buttons on the remote are small, up-down keys can be a challenge in a dark room if the input button is pushed and has to reset. I make that comment because the input key can be barely touched and it is activated. The channel and volume keys are at the bottom of the remote unlike most remote which locate them higher on the remote.
This model has been replaced by a newer version making it harder to find and purchase than five months ago.

Sony BRAVIA EX520 Series KDL32EX520 32 Inch 1080p LED HDTV Review
I purchased two of these TV's less than a week ago. I unpacked one so and thus far everything is working like advertised. No problems experienced. Picked them up for a great price. So far I have nothing to say negative about the TV. For a rather small TV I feel the sound is very good and I do not need external speakers. I hooked my iMac to this TV to have it act as a second monitor to the iMac. Here is how I did it: I went from the Mini Display Port on the iMac and used a converter to HDMI, then plugged that directly into HDMI 1 on the Sony. Still have 3 HDMI's available. I have an excellent picture out of the box but not sure I have achieved the best picture possible yet, but there are a lot of adjustments that I need to experiment with. I would like to better understand how I can obtain a better picture when I am using the TV as an external monitor to the iMac. It is usable as is, but I feel it needs some adjustments to make it better. Any suggestions are welcomed and I will give them a try. I looked at the AVS site to see what I could find as recommended settings to achieve the max potential, but so far I have not found much information relating to this particular model. I use this as a external monitor to run things like "Adobe Help" and on my iMac screen I might be using Photoshop at the same time. I am able to research and follow directions from the external monitor Sony TV. Lot of real estate on this 32" screen. My model is KDL-32EX520. I also use this set while I am working on my computer to watch TV programs. I will update this review as I become more familiar with the TV.

I bought this 46" Sony to replace a 26" that died in the recent hurricane. I decided that a serious upgrade in size was needed and I was very attracted to the on-board Internet connection and built-in wifi. I was not only not disappointed, I have been thrilled to pieces (with just one minor glitch that I'm sure will be resolved). Set up was extremely easy. I purchased the Sony Home Theater Sony HT-CT150 3D Sound Bar System to enhance the sound quality and the two products sync together. The TV and all components (cable box, DVD, and even my iPod) connect through the subwoofer, which serves as a switching box, so there is only a single cable going into the TV. With Bravia Sync you can control the sound system with the TV remote. I still have to switch channels when watching through cable with the cable remote.
The HD picture is nothing short of astounding. Really beautiful, sharp, clear, vibrant. Watching nature shows and movies on this set is a revelation. Movies look fabulous, and in my apartment-sized living room, the size of the screen makes you feel like you're in a screening room. I will have very little need to ever pay movie theater ticket prices again.
The one glitch so far is that I can't seem to get the streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon) to play through the sound system. I suspect that I will need to get on line with Sony customer service to fix this. This is an excellent TV that I highly recommend. It's very interesting, also, that five years ago, when I bought my first flat screen HD TV, a 26", I paid about $250 more than I just paid for this TV on Amazon. Go figure.
The HD picture is nothing short of astounding. Really beautiful, sharp, clear, vibrant. Watching nature shows and movies on this set is a revelation. Movies look fabulous, and in my apartment-sized living room, the size of the screen makes you feel like you're in a screening room. I will have very little need to ever pay movie theater ticket prices again.
The one glitch so far is that I can't seem to get the streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon) to play through the sound system. I suspect that I will need to get on line with Sony customer service to fix this. I read all the other reviews but I got this TV as a "no hassle warantee replacement" for another Sony that had a panel go out on me. The difference between my old one and this is that this one has Edge LED Backlight and internet connectivity. Because I read the previous reviews, I was prepared before the set arrived. I bought a CAT 7 LAN cable in case I had to hardwire it, but I wanted to try wireless first. The wireless works great for me, but then I have a Linksys maximum performance dual band N router. The TV uses the 5.1ghz band while my computers and printers use the 2.4ghz band simultaneously. I set the router up first with WPA-2 security and my chosen SSID and Security key. DO NOT use the WPS setup even though this router has the capability. What happens when you do, is the router generates a random set of security keys and then you have to go back and reconfigure all your other stuff so they will work. Choose the manual configuration and scan for and select your network SSID, then input your preset security key. Boom - Done. My cable modem and router are in a stand with my cable box, dvd, blu-ray, etc. about 3' below the wall mounted TV. So far the streaming movies work well, and I would not expect then to all be free. I bought the router and Sony Wireless LAN adapter refurbished and saved a chunk of money. I do this frequently because they are TWICE BAKED as far as factory inspections go.
I also was disappointed with the sound at first, but I went to the sound setup and selected the surround sound feature and adjusted the treble - bass so everything became clear as a bell. Best TV sound I ever had. I also have some Sony wireless headsets that have built in DTS and Dolby Digital decoders.
What can I say about the picture. Nothing bad, but I do take the time to go through the entire setup procedures and tweak everything the way I like.
I will agree that the wireless LAN adapter is overpriced, but that what Sony does.
I haven't tried connecting my computer to it yet, but I have ordered a 15' HDMI cable that I will use to try.
The split screen feature is the best I have ever used.
